Two youths beaten to death

Sun News Desk: Two youths were beaten to death on suspicion of cow theft in Narail on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Asadul Sheikh (36), son of Gafur Sheikh of Dariya Baridanga village of Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat. The identity of the other is yet to be known.

Mahmudur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station, said that Six cows were stolen from Birgram in the last one month. After the incidents, the people of the village used to keep watch regularly to catch thieves. However, the locals caught the two youths and left them on the side of the road after beating them up. The police recovered the body after receiving information in the morning.

Ashis Kumar Biswas, chairman of the local Kalora union, said that during the day, the hawkers used to sell blankets, dishes and other goods and make inquiries. Later, they used to steal at night. In the last few days, about 5-6 cows were stolen from the village. After this incident, the villagers kept vigil.

Kamruzzaman, Additional Superintendent of Polic, said that due to the increase of cattle stealing in Narail, the Superintendent of Police held meetings in various areas and made arrangements for guarding. As a result, the villagers did this incident last night. The police will file a case in this case.
