Law enforcement agencies have launched an unprecedented joint operation in the Jungle Salimpur area of Sitakunda in Chattogram to free the area from becoming a safe haven for terrorists and criminals.
Around 4,000 members of the army, police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) joined the operation, which started at about 5:40AM on Monday.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) of Chattogram District Police Md Russell said, ''This is a very large-scale operation. Around 4,000 members of the joint forces are conducting the drive,'' a police official said, adding that officers from multiple agencies are participating in the mission.
The official added that the operation will continue for as long as necessary to eliminate criminal activities and restore full security in the area. Checkpoints have been set up at entry and exit points to prevent suspects from escaping.
Jungle Salimpur is located in a hilly and remote area near Chattogram city. Illegal settlements have developed there over the past four decades, and criminal groups have reportedly used the area as a safe haven. Hills in the area have also been cut to facilitate illegal land trading.
