Argentina thrash Burkina Faso 7-0 in dominant display

SPORTS DESK

Argentina produced another commanding attacking performance, cruising to a 7-0 victory over Burkina Faso in their second friendly of the international break.

Playing in front of their home supporters at the Estadio Monumental early Sunday, the Albiceleste followed up their 4-0 win over Bolivia with another emphatic result. Argentina have now scored 11 goals across their two matches without conceding.

Argentina took just four minutes to open the scoring. Burkina Faso’s Moumouni Diallo brought down Agustin Giay inside the box, earning Argentina a penalty. Although the goalkeeper saved the initial spot-kick, the Argentina forward reacted quickly to convert the rebound and put the hosts ahead. He had also scored against Bolivia.

The goal took his international tally to 42 in 86 appearances, moving him closer to Gabriel Batistuta’s 54 goals, the second-highest total in Argentina’s history. Lionel Messi remains the country’s leading scorer with 125 goals.

Argentina doubled their advantage in the eighth minute when Diallo was again involved. The Burkina Faso defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net while attempting to clear an Argentine attack.

The hosts continued to dominate and added a third in the 12th minute through Gianluca Prestianni. The goal was his first for the national team and gave Argentina a 3-0 lead before the quarter-hour mark.

Nicolas Paz made it 4-0 in the 35th minute, finding space with a well-timed run before calmly finishing. Just a minute later, Julian Alvarez added a fifth to complete a brilliant first-half display.

Argentina went into the break with a five-goal cushion and maintained their attacking intensity after the restart.

Franco Mastantuono came off the bench in the 57th minute and quickly made an impact, scoring his first international goal. He finished calmly in a one-on-one situation to make it 6-0.

The goal was particularly memorable for Mastantuono as it came at the Monumental, where he had previously scored a spectacular free-kick while playing for River Plate.

Burkina Faso struggled to contain Argentina’s relentless attacking pressure throughout the match. Even with a comfortable lead, the hosts continued to press forward.

Giovanni Simeone completed the rout in the third minute of stoppage time, scoring Argentina’s seventh and final goal to seal a comprehensive 7-0 victory.
