Lesser lights grab the spotlight

Staff Reporter:

After corona, national team fast bowler Rubel Hossain is performing in a great way on the field. All the focus was on him in the final of the BCB President's Cup. But Sumon Khan of Mahmudullah XI took all the light, by taking 5 wickets. By the fire of this pacer of Mahmudullah XI, Nazmul XI was burnt to ashes in the final of the BCB President's Cup.

After losing the toss at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, the Nazmuls were all out for 183 runs. Sumon Khan alone took 5 wickets. Rubel did not disappoint also that day. The right-arm pacer took two wickets. Besides, Ibadat, Miraj and Mahmudullah got one wicket each.

Irfan Shukkur played the important role in achieving the three figures in Nazmul's innings. Almost half of the runs in the innings came from the bat of this left-arm batsman. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 75 runs. The remaining 9 batsmen did 98. Irfan smashed his innings with 8 fours and 2 sixes off 6 balls.

After losing 5 wickets for 64 runs, Touhid Hridoy and Irfan formed a partnership. They handled the initial push with a pair of 60 runs from 72 balls. Irfan was left alone when Hridoy returned for 26 runs. The left-arm batsman made a run alone by keeping his combativeness towards the end. Rubel eventually took his wicket. Irfan became bold after missing the ball of the right-arm pacer.

Earlier, everyone in the top order of Nazmul XI was in a procession of failure. Saif Hasan (4), Soumya Sarkar (5), Nazmul Hossain Shanto (32), Mushfiqur Rahim (12) and Afif Hossain Dhruv (0) quickly returned to the dressing room.

Nazmul XI has reached the final by winning three out of four matches. On the other hand, Mahmudullah XI won two of the four matches and reached the final. Mahmudullah has lost twice against Nazmul XI in the league. This is a great opportunity to take revenge. The target is only 164. Will Mahmudullah be able to defeat !!!
