Bogra Municipality is upgrading to City Corporation

National Desk

The process of upgrading the 150-year-old Bogra Municipality to a city corporation has been finalized. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will formally inaugurate the Bogura City Corporation on Monday.

Bogura Municipality was last expanded in 2006 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, when 48 surrounding mouzas were incorporated, increasing its area to 69.56 square kilometres.

At the time, the number of wards rose from 12 to 21, with plans to eventually upgrade the municipality into a city corporation. However, due to various administrative complexities, the plan was not implemented.

According to PM's Protocol Officer-1 Ujjal Hossain, the Prime Minister will formally inaugurate the Bogura City Corporation at 11AM on Monday.
