'Sitrang' to hit by this evening

Sun News Desk: State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman said that Cyclone Sitrang will hit this evening. He said reporters at a briefing on Cyclone Sitrang at the Secretariat on Monday.

Dr. Enamur Rahman said that Cyclone Sitrang has transformed into a severe cyclone. According to the weather department, it will hit this evening and will cross the coast tomorrow (Tuesday) between 6am to 7am.

He also said that Sitrang will hit Bangladesh. India is unlikely to be hit. Barguna and Patuakhali will be affected most.

Meanwhile, Cyclone 'Sitrang' is gradually approaching the coast of Bangladesh. Therefore, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to hoist danger signal number 7 and Chattogram seaport and Cox's Bazar to hoist danger signal number 6.

According to the bulletin of BMD, Cyclone Sitrang, which is located over East-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal, is moving north-northeastward and is staying over East-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal and North Bay of Bengal.

The cyclone hits 590 km from Chittagong seaport at 6 am today. 535 km from Cox's Bazar seaport in the southwest. 525 km from Mongla seaport in the south-west and 495 km from Payra seaport. It was located in the south-southwest. It may further intensify and move in a north-northeast direction and cross the Barisal-Chittagong coast near Khepupara by Tuesday morning.

Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to lower Local Warning Signal number 4 and display danger Signal number 7. Coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalkathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Lakshmipur, Chidpur, Noakhali, Feni and their nearby islands and islands will be under danger signal 7.
