12 get life in Gopalganj

Sun News Desk : A court in Gopalganj today has sentenced 12 robbers for killing a woman while robbing in Muksudpur upazila of the district.

The lifers are- Minto Sheikh, 25, Liton alias Alam, 32, Tutul Meer, 23, Kabir Sheikh, 28, Mafujal Bishwas alias Masud, 32, Kakali Begum, 22, Shimu alias Shima, 25, Zahangir Talukder alias Babu Talukder, 35, Rafiqul Fakir, 32, Mazi, 35, Tara Mia Sheikh alias Taher, 28, and Molam Sheikh, 40. They are residents of Gopalganj, Faridpur, and Madaripur districts.

Gopalganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Maksudur Rahman delivered the verdict, the court bench clerk Mahbub Rahman confirmed the matter.

The case statement said a group of robbers stormed the house of retired Railway officer Sirajul Islam at Chandibardi village in Muksudpur upazila on November 3 night, 2010. They looted money and gold ornaments from the family members at gunpoint.

The robbers hacked Sirajul with a sharp weapon when he obstructed them. They also hacked his daughter Shawon when she tried to save him, leaving her dead.

Later, Sirajul filed a case with Muksudpur Police Station in this connection.
