Following the Covid-19 situation constantly deteriorating in the country, the government has imposed strict lockdown all over the country from Thursday July 1 onwards.
However, a more limited scale lockdown has been imposed in the country today to abate the continuously surging Delta variant that is threatening to plague the nation.
Coming into effect from 6 am today, the restrictions have suspended all public transports from taking the streets, and has shops on the main streets to remain closed.
The decision to shut down transports have been announced by the Cabinet Division on Sunday via circulars. Law enforcement agencies are to enforce and ensure that the lockdown rules are followed. Nevertheless, office goers were seen to be taking private vehicles, CNG’s, and even walking to their workplaces.
Meanwhile many people have been avoiding health regulations and rolling out of the capital back to their hometowns.
The Shimulia-Banglabazar route was seen being overcrowded by homebound people of the south of the country. Check-posts have been set up for crowd control at Shimulia Ghat as more than 500 vehicles have been recorded to make their way out of the capital on the 14 operating ferries.
