People dash out of Dhaka as lockdown nears

With the Covid-19 crisis in the country continuously rising in the country, following the Delta variant making its way in the country, the Press Information Department (PID) has decided to impose strict shutdown in the country in an effort to make the Covid situation subside.

The nationwide lockdown is to be reinforced with the addition of army troops from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to the already existing law enforcements.

All public and private establishments are to remain closed in the span of the lockdown, along with all transports being suspended from travelling across the entire country with the exception of emergency services.

This announcement has led people to rapidly roll-out of the capital to their hometowns and villages.

In a desperate attempt to flee the city sans public transport, people have been seen to be hiring private hire vehicles, or even travelling by foot.

The strict shutdown of the entire country is to be implemented from July 1 onwards.
