Bangladesh is currently under a distressful situation regarding the concerning amount of Covid cases and resulting deaths that are plaguing the country.
As of Saturday June 26, the death-toll for Covid crossed 14 thousand with the newly reported 77 deaths from the virus. The total number of cases tallied up-to 8 lakhs 83 thousand 138 as 4 thousand 334 new infections were reported.
Following the ever-increasing number of cases and deaths due to Covid-19, the government has made the decision to administer strict ‘all-out’ lockdown nationwide from Thursday July 1.
Meanwhile a limited scale lockdown will be implemented all over the country from Monday June 28 onwards.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan stated this decision via a high-level on Saturday June 27.
Factories and banks are to be made an exception from the lockdown, although, banks are to operate on a more limited scale.
Apart from that, all public transports are to be suspended from Monday onwards.
Principal Information Officer Surath Kumar Sarker of the Press Information Department (PID) has stated that further details regarding the lockdown will be released via an issued notification by the Cabinet Division.
The lockdown that is to now take effect from Thursday July 1, was initially set to do so from Monday June 28. The PID, and State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain had announced the initial lockdown date on Friday June 25.
Farhad Hossain had further announced that apart from emergency reasons no one would be allowed to leave their homes and BGB troops would be joining the police in strengthening their endeavors in enforcing a stricter shutdown.
In the entire time of the lockdown, all government and private offices are to remain closed with the exception of some bank branches and offices of the National Board of Revenue that will operate in handling the national budget till June 30.
All transports except for those carrying emergency supplies and medical supplies, and ambulances, are to be suspended during the span of the lockdown.
