Lockdown not lessening Covid-19

According to yesterday’s press release by the Department of Health, a total of 8 lakhs 66 thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven people around Bangladesh have been infected, among which 7 lakhs 91 thousand five hundred and fifty-three have recovered, with 13 thousand seven hundred and eighty seven people dead from the virus.

With the coronavirus crisis in the country, as both virus-induced infection and death rate are at an increase, the World Health Organization has reported that 40 out of the 64 districts are at high risk.

The agency has made this deduction after a week’s worth of sample testing and patient identification rate.

This has led the Department of Heath to fear for the Covid-19 situation in the country to escalate at an alarming level if the government imposed health regulations are not followed by the general public.

According to them, the number of identified patients has crossed four and a half thousand in the span of 3 days. The department informed on Wednesday, June 23, that about 5 thousand 7 hundred and twenty-seven people have been reported to be infected by the virus in the last 24 hours.

This has been marked as the highest recorded number of positive cases in the last two and a half months.

The patient identification rate is more than 20%, with the daily death toll being about 75 over the last 4 days. The infection rates which were higher in Dhaka and Chittagong at the initial first, and second waves, are now seen to be ever-escalating in areas outside Dhaka, like Khulna and Rajshahi.

One of the spokespersons of the Health Department, Robed Amin, mentioned via a virtual health bulletin of the Covid-19 crisis in the country deteriorating despite the imposition of lockdown.

Following the alarming incline of the daily number of infected people, he has urged law enforcement agencies to be strict if necessary, to strengthen the imposition of the lockdown.

However, despite the lockdowns imposed, an alarmingly rapid rate of people can be seen to be either infected by or dead because of the virus, all over the country, with the situation worsening further in the country’s Khulna division.

The number of patients in Khulna, Jessore, Chuadanga, Kushtia, Jhenaidah, Satkhira and Meherpur of this division is also increasing rapidly along with those in Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore, Naogaon, Pabna and Bogra.

The country’s death rate is currently standing at 1.59%.
