Eleven Jamaat-e-Islami lawmakers have filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the government’s decision to assign 30 ministers, state ministers and whips responsibilities for the country’s 64 districts.
The writ was filed on Sunday at the relevant High Court section, with the Cabinet Secretary named as the respondent.

Barrister Mohammad Shishir Monir, counsel for the petitioners, said a similar district-wise allocation of responsibilities was made in 2001.

That decision was subsequently challenged before the High Court, which declared the allocation unconstitutional, he added.

''Under the Rules of Business, the Constitution of Bangladesh and judgments of the higher courts, such a decision is beyond legal authority and unlawful.''

The petition is likely to be heard by a two-judge bench of the High Court.
