RpCC polls on December

Sun News Desk: Rangpur City Corporation election will be held on December 27. Polling will continue from 8:30am to 4:30pm and voting will be done through EVM. The full election schedule will be announced next Monday.

Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam said this after the 9th commission meeting in the capital's Election Commission building on Thursday.

The secretary said that by-elections for general and vacant seats of five municipalities and some union councils will be held on this day. The municipalities are Bagha in Rajshahi, Birol in Dinajpur, Boda in Panchagarh, Alfadanga in Faridpur and Banpara in Natore.

The last election in this city was held on 21 December 2017. The first meeting of the elected corporation was held on February 19, 2018. Since the term of the city is considered to be five years from the first meeting, the term of those elected in this city will expire on February 18, 2023.

EC Joint Secretary Farhad Ahmed Khan said that according to the City Corporation Election Act, polling should be held within 180 days before the expiry of a city's term. In this case, the counting of time for this city election has started on August 19. And Rasik City elections should be completed within 180 days before February 18, 2023.
