Govt to buy fuel oil

Sun News Desk: The government has decided to buy 5.4 million tons of refined and unrefined fuel oil (crude oil) for next year. The Cabinet Committee on Wednesday (19 October) gave in-principle approval for the purchase.

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs was held virtually under the chairmanship of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

Rahat Anwar, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division, said Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) under the Department of Energy and Mineral Resource has been given in-principle approval to purchase 1.6 million tons of crude oil from Saudi Aramco and Abu Dhabi's ADNOC through direct purchase method (DPM) for the year 2023.

Apart from this, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) under the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, the proposal to import 38 lakh 60 thousand tons of refined fuel oil on G-to-G basis for the year 2023 through direct purchase method has been given principle approval.

Besides, in-principle approval has been given for a project to develop an environment-friendly sanitation system in Patenga, the southern part of Chittagong metropolis and adjacent areas.

The project named 'Chittagong Metropolitan Sewerage Project for Patenga Catchment' will be implemented on Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis. Chittagong WASA under local government department will implement this project.
