Sun News Desk: The Election Commission (EC) has suspended the by-election of Gaibandha-5 seat due to widespread irregularities.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.
He said that the election has been declared closed as the situation went out of control.

Earlier, polling in 51 centers were stopped due to various irregularities till noon. A total of 145 centers including 88 in Saghata upazila and 57 in Phulchari upazila in this by-election.
After seeing the polling situation on the CC camera in the morning, the CEC said, 'The polls has gone out of control. We have seen with our own eyes voting by illegally entering the secret room. So the polling station has been closed.

The voting started at 88 centres in Saghata upazila and 57 in Fulchhari upazila at 8am. Later, the Election Commission (EC) postponed the voting at 43 polling centres over irregularities.
