The ever-increasing amount of Covid cases in Bangladesh has led the government in planning to impose yet another lockdown on 7 districts, for nine days.
Except for emergency services, all transportations are to be suspended in the on-going lockdown.
Manikganj, Munsiganj, Gazipur, Madaripur, Rajbari and Gopalganj are to go into strict lockdown from June 30 onwards.
Health authorities have provided of the test positivity rate climbing to a further 19.7%, as of this Monday, with the number of people infected standing to 4,636.
A further 78 people have died from the deadly virus.
This now tallies up the total number of Covid cases to 856,304, and the overall deaths at 13,626.
This is an attempt to isolate and protect the capital from the effects of the deadly Delta variant that has been said to slowly spread towards the city, said Cabinet Ministry Deputy Secretary of the Field Administration Coordination Branch, Rezaul Islam.
This announcement marks the imposition of full or partial lockdown in over 20 districts.
However, despite the lockdowns, covid cases and related death tolls continue to rise due to people defying them for the most meager reasons.
The DGHS, in a press release has stated that 78 covid deaths have been recorded in 24 hours between Sunday and Monday alone.
The press release further informed that the highest cases were recorded in Khulna, being in 40.4%, Rangpur with 38.94%, and Rajshahi with 24.18%.
As of now, Sylhet has the lowest positivity rates, at 13.18%, and Dhaka at 14.11%.
