Pfizer dose implemented in Dhaka

The world can see a sliver of hope after being plagued by a global pandemic for a year, in the form of vaccines.

Oxford-AstraZeneca's Covishield, Russia's Sputnik-V, and China's Sinopharm are examples of the vaccines Bangladesh has received so far to help with its fight it abating the deadly effects of Covid-19.

As of now, doses of the Pfizer vaccine have recently reached the capital and are to be administered at 3 centers in Dhaka. The inaugurations in all 3 centers were held this morning, and the vaccinations are to continue till 3pm today.

The Pfizer dose for Covid-19 is being implemented at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Institute & Hospital, and Kurmitola General Hospital, in Dhaka.

The inauguration of the vaccination programme was held at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, and done by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed.

Meanwhile Director of Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Institute & Hospital, Faruk Ahmed, and, Director of Kurmitola General Hospital, Jamil Ahmed, both inaugurated the event at their respective centers..

Member secretary of the Vaccine Deployment Committee under the DGHS, Dr Shamsul Haque, mentioned that 120 individuals are to be vaccinated at the initial phase of the programme in each of the centers. Afterwards, they are to be kept under observation for the next week or so, he added to his statement in the daily Covid bulletin this Sunday.

The Pfizer mRNA Covid vaccine was approved to be administered on May 27, by the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA).

To facilitate the import and application of the vaccine, all legal barriers have been removed to support the process.

May 31 saw the shipment of more than 1 hundred thousand vaccines in Dhaka.

This had been done under the international vaccine alliance, Gavi, as a part of its inoculation initiative.

The DGDA Directorate General has stated that the Pfizer vaccine requires double dosage for effectiveness. The second dose is to be provided 3 weeks after the first one.
