4 killed in Moulvibazar landslide

Sun News Desk: Four female tea workers were killed in a landslide at a tea garden in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar district on Friday.

The deceased are Sukantala Bhumij, 40, Hira Bhumij, 30, Radha Mahali, 25, and Puni Bhumij, 25. All were workers of Lakhaichhara Tea Garden of the upazila.

The incident occurred around 12 pm when a group of workers went to dig up soil from a hill at the garden in order to refurbish their house.

Sreemangal police station OC Shamim ur Rashid Talukdar confirmed the matter.

Four workers had been brought in dead to Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex, said Dr Redwan Ahsanullah of the emergency department of the hospital. Another injured worker was still hospitalized, he added.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sreemangal Circle) Shahidul Haque Munshi told he would visit the spot and give details about the incident later.
