Three killed in road accident

District correspondent : Three female workers were killed when an unidentified vehicle crashed into a battery-powered auto-rickshaw on their way to work in Habiganj on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Urmi Akter (20), daughter of Monsur Mia from Majlishpur village in Baniachong upazila, Dilara Begum (32), daughter of Kaiyum Ullah from Jantori village in Nabiganj upazila, and Rumi Akter (25), a senior operator at Badsha Pioneer Company.

Saidul Haque, the duty officer at Madhabpur Police Station, said the three women were traveling in a battery-powered auto-rickshaw (locally called Tomtom) to their workplace at Shahjibazar Badsha Pioneer Company. While passing through dense fog, an unidentified vehicle struck their auto-rickshaw, causing it to overturn and crush. As a result, all three women lost their lives.

The bodies of the victims have been recovered and taken to the morgue at Habiganj Sadar Hospital. Police are working to apprehend the driver and identify the vehicle involved in the incident. After the accident, factory workers blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, and later, highway and local police arrived at the scene to manage the situation, he added.
