2 killed as parking shed collapse

Sun News Desk: Two workers were killed and five others injured while the under-construction parking shed of the annex building of Khagrachari District Parishad collapsed on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased are Sajjad,17, and another person has not been identified. The injured are - Md. Rokon, 38, Md. Hasan, 24, Md. Hanif, 25, Md. Hanif, 27, Md. Sohail, 23.

It has been found that during the construction of the ground floor parking shed of the building suddenly collapsed from above. After rescue workers of the army and fire service recovered 6 workers and then sent them to Khagrachhari District Headquarters Hospital, where one died and later, another dead body of a laborer was recovered from the spot.

Rajesh Barua, Assistant Station Manager of Khagrachari Fire Service, told that six people were rescued from the spot and sent to the hospital. One of them died on the hospital. Later, the dead body of another worker was recovered from under the collapsed roof.

Mangsuiproo Chowdhury Apu, Khagrachari Hill District Council Chairman, said the highest legal action will be taken against the concerned contractors and co-operation will be given the families of the victims.

Arifur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khagrachari Sadar Police Station, told the bodies of the two workers are in Khagrachari Sadar Hospital. The rest of the injured construction workers are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
