Unprecedented security to stop the peasant movement in Delhi

International Desk: Farmers have again blocked national and state highways across the country as announced earlier demanding complete repeal of India's controversial farm law. More than 50,000 security personnel have been deployed on the outskirts of Delhi alone to quell the movement.

The SKM (Samyukt Kisan Morcha announced this nationwide 'chakka jam' or road blockade on Saturday, saying that farmers would block national and state highways for three hours in protest against the Internet ban in areas near the agitated farmer's camping sites,

Indian media outlet NDTV reported on Saturday (February 6th) that the blockade, which began at 12 noon local time, would continue until 3 pm. Emergency services such as ambulances and school buses are exempt from the blockade.

The Indian government has deployed more than 50,000 security personnel on the outskirts of Delhi to prevent any untoward incidents surrounding the blockade. With that many water cannons have been brought. In this situation, there is tension between the agitating farmers and security members.

Emergency warnings have been issued at 12 metro stations in Delhi to maintain law and order.
