International Desk:The United States has expressed deep concern over reports of persecution of Chinese Uighur Muslims and systematic rape of women in China. News - BBC.
A statement from the US State Department on Wednesday (February 4th) said that China should suffer the consequences of the barbaric incident in Xinjiang.
The United States has said in a statement that it was "deeply disturbed" by the atrocities.
Earlier, some international media, including the BBC, have published reports of torture based on former detainees and victims.
However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry called the report "fake".
In reference to the report, detailing horrific rape, sexual harassment and torture of women by police and guards in Xinjiang's detention camps, a UK parliament spokesman termed it as 'clear evil acts'.
A State Department spokesman said in a briefing, "The United States is deeply concerned about the evidence of victims of the ongoing rape and sexual harassment of women in the camps of Uighur and other Muslims in Xinjiang."
The U.S. official said China should "conduct a speedy and independent investigation through international observers" into allegations of rape and other atrocities in Xinjiang's camps.
The State Department spokesman did not say what steps the United States would take in this regard. However, he said Washington could talk to its allies about condemning the atrocities in Xinjiang.
He noted that measures were being taken to hold those responsible for the torture accountable and to prevent such incidents in the future.
