The ongoing Covid-19 crisis has led to a rise in strict enforcement of health regulations along with the simultaneous rise in cases.
In an effort to abate transmission of the virus, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has declared that any passenger other than the motorcyclists themselves cannot travel on motorcycles taking the road.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the Media and Mass Communication Department of the DMP, Iftekharul Islam, informed the media and expects citizens to abide by these instructions.
These instructions were given in the first place in an effort to tackle the risk of transmission of the virus that might result from several people using the same helmet while sharing rides on motorcycles.
It had been announced that following Monday June 28, a lockdown at a limited scale would be imposed nationwide, barring all modes of public transports with the exception of rickshaws, private vehicles, and emergency vehicles. This has prompted many in sharing rides via motorcycles to reach their desired destinations.
