Nepal's President Vidya Devi Bhandari is in Dhaka

Own Correspondent: Nepal's President Vidya Devi Bhandari has arrived in Dhaka. A VVIP aircraft of Nepal Airlines (A320), carrying Vidya Devi and her entourage landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 10 am.The red carpet was rolled out as she arrived Dhaka this morning. President Hamid received his Nepalese counterpart with a bouquet at the airport.

At the invitation of her Bangladeshi counterpart, she arrived in Dhaka on a two-day state visit to attend the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence.

This is her first visit to Bangladesh as President. Vidya Devi Bhandari will stay in Dhaka for two days on March 22 and 23.

The Nepalese President was given an honour guard with 21-gun salute by a smartly turned out contingent of defence force. She then inspected the parade.

From the airport, President Vidya Devi will pay tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War of Bangladesh by placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar.

In the afternoon, she will attend the National Parade Square (Ground) function as the guest of honour where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will receive her. A cultural event has also been organized followed by dinner at the state dining hall of Bangabhaban on the occasion with performances by artists from Bangladesh and Nepal.
