Own Correspondent: The President of Nepal is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on a two-day state visit tomorrow. President Vidya Devi Bhandari is coming to Bangladesh on Monday (March 22nd) to attend the ongoing twin mega celebrations, the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 50 Years of Independence of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is hosting a ten-day special programme to celebrate these mega events. The president of Nepal is coming to Bangladesh at the invitation of President Abdul Hamid. He will receive his Nepalese counterpart upon her arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
During the visit, President Bhandari will attend the celebrations of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu tomorrow afternoon as Guest of Honour. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will receive the Nepalese president at the venue.She will hold bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. During the meeting, the two countries will sign a number of MoUs on cooperation in the fields of tourism, cultural exchange and agriculture.
Preferential trade agreements (PTAs) will be discussed soon. Bangladesh-Nepal relations will reach a new height through this visit of the President of Nepal. Bilateral trade and investment will increase. The government thinks economic and diplomatic relations will be further strengthened.
This time the issue of Operational Liaison of Rohanpur-Singhabad Railway Transit Agreement is being added to the Transit and Protocol Agreement. The freight train will travel from Rohanpur in Chapainawabganj to Singhabad border in Malda, India to Biratnagar in Nepal.
Bangladesh has already signed protocol with neighboring India on this agreement. In this context, the Secretary of Commerce. Md. Zafar Uddin said that he has been working with Nepal for a long time on the issue of taking goods directly by rail.
President Bhandari will attend the State Banquet hosted by the president of Bangladesh in her honour. She will return to Nepal on Tuesday afternoon. Foreign Minister Dr Momen will see her off at the airport.
