Myanmar's ambassador to the UN against military rule

International Desk: Myanmar's ambassador to the UN has urged the United Nations to take any action against the military government that had seized power through a military coup removing the countr's elected democratic government.

On Friday (February 26th), UN Ambassador to Myanmar Kiao Moe-tun called for immediate action to ensure the safety and security of the people. He also called on all member states to issue a public statement condemning the coup at a special UN meeting on Myanmar. Qatar-based news outlet Al Jazeera reported the information.

Protests have been going on across Myanmar since the February 1 coup. On the same day, Aung San Suu Kyi's elected government was overthrown and she was placed under house arrest. For the past three weeks, there have been daily protests and demonstrations in various cities in Myanmar against the military rule. Meanwhile, in addition to cracking down on protesters, government forces have launched a series of attacks on protesters.

On Friday, the elected leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, called on the Myanmar ambassador to the UN General Assembly to "take all necessary measures against the military junta and provide security and protection to the people of Myanmar." "We need the toughest possible action on the part of the international community to immediately stop the military coup, stop the oppression, return state power to the people and restore democracy," Kiao Moe-tun said at the General Assembly meeting.

Kiao Moe-tun called on UN member states to stop recognizing Myanmar's junta government and not to cooperate with them. He also called for the toughest possible action. "We will continue to fight to establish a government for the people," he said.

In addition to street protests, there have been calls for a civil non-cooperation movement in Myanmar. Thousands of government employees and professionals are joining the non-cooperation movement against the junta government. Following this, Myanmar's ambassador to the United Nations opposed the junta government. He was appointed there by Aung San Suu Kyi's last elected government.
