Keep Commitment: Take Back Rohingya

Staff Repoeter: Foreign Minister Abdul Momen in a letter to Myanmar’s Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor, Kyaw Tint Swe, reminded Myanmar's commitment regarding repatriation of the Rohingya people .

'i have sent a letterto Minister Tint on January 1, wishing him a Happy New Year. I said him to initiate the repatriation process this year'. The letter also said 'there is a risk of unrest if the Rohingya were not repatriated'.

Three and a half years after the Rohingya influxn into Bangladesh, none of them could be sent back to Myanmar's Rakhine state. "Repatriation of Rohingya is a big challenge for us," he told reporters at his office on Sunday (January 3rd). We want to start repatriation this year'.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdul Momen reminded Myanmar Minister of his words to take back the Rohingyas. He promised to create an environment for repatriation. But no progress has been made yet. This requires political will. .

Replying to a question, the Foreign Minister said Bangladesh wants cooperation from China as well as Japan on repatriation issue.
