International Desk: When the whole of Rome was intoxicated with the hope of a new dawn on , leaving behind thenightmares of 2020, just then the celebration took lives of hundreds of birds. The Animal Rights Group called it a 'murder' of the roosting birds.
The Guardian, Sky News and other international media outlets reported on Friday (January 1st).
Hundreds of Sterling birds were found dead that night in Rome's main railway station. ootage showed the street is litterd with the lifeless birds ,many were injured.
The cause of death of the birds that night is not yet clear. But the International Organization for the Protection of Animals (OIPA) called it a "murder" and said loud fireworks and crackers were responsible for the deaths.
"It simply came to our notice then. They may fly together in fear and even die if they collide with each other. Again, they may have lost their way in fear and got stuck in a window or power line and died. They can even die of a heart attack. ' Said a spokesman for the organization.
He noted that fireworks cause injuries and deaths to pets and wildlife every year. And the organization claimed that ignoring the ban on personal fireworks and curfew imposed due to Corona,, the loud display took place.
The OIPA Italy branch has demanded a ban on the sale and use of firecrackerss and fireworks to stop the distress and injury of animals..
