Niger Terrorist Attack: 79 killed

Staff Reporter: At least 79 people were killed Saturday after terrorists attacked two villages in Niger. At least 49 people were killed in the village of Chombangu on the western border with Mali. Another 17 people were left injured. On the other hand, 30 people were killed in Jaromdar, a government official said.

Reuters quoted Interior Minister Alkache Alhadar as saying troops had been deployed to surveillance the area.

The last attack on the two villages took place during the national election in Niger. The country's president, Mahamadou Isoufou, has resigned after his office of five years in two terms.

Boko Haram has been a constant threat for this landlock country of Africa. Last month at least 27 people were killed in the Diffa region.
