JnU student commits suicide

Staff reporter : A student of Jagannath University committed suicide on Friday after posting a note on Facebook.

She was identified as Fairuz Abontika who was a 13th batch student of law department of Jagannath university.

Before committing suicide, she posted a status on her Facebook wall where she brought allegations of sexual harassment against one of her classmates, Amman Siddique.

Abontika, in her post, also accused the university’s assistant proctor Deen Islam of misbehaving with her supporting Amman.

In the facebook post, Abontika mentioned that her classmate Amman Siddique and assistant proctor Deen Islam would be responsible for her suicide.

Abontika first posted the status about committing suicide on Facebook. Then she committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room.

She was immediately rescued and taken to hospital where doctors declared her dead.

Jahangir Hossain, JnU proctor Professor, said that a five-member committee had been formed to investigate the girl’s suicide and her complaint against her classmate and the assistant proctor.

He also said that both the student and the assistant proctor were suspended immediately.
