International Desk: The woman from Myanmar who was shot in the anti-coup protest has died while undergoing treatment. The 20-year-old May Thwe Thwe Khaing was fatally shot by security forces during a nationwide civil disobedience campaign in Myanmar. Mya was injured two days before her 20th birthday in a protest against the military government in Nay Pyi Taw last week, the BBC reported on Friday (February 19th).

This is the first time a civilian has died at the hands of law enforcement since the coup. She was shot in the head and was being treated at the hospital. Her brother, Yeh Hutut Aung, told Reuters, "We are heartbroken." Her brother added, I begged her not to join the demonstrations, I tried to refrain her out of fear they could turn violent. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, he said.

Mya was seriously injured in the live rounds, human rights organizations have been complaining. Mya was placed on life support when she was taken to hospital. But the government has denied the allegations of using lethal force at the rally in a statement issued Friday.
