Pakistan in turmoil again

International Desk: Pakistan has been in turmoil again demanding the release of imprisoned former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Pakistani mass media 'The Dawn' and 'The Print' reported that a ray of hope has arisen among supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party, Tehreek-e-Insaf or PTI, after Donald Trump's victory.

PTI leader Syed Zulfi Bukhari said 'I will discuss the repression of Imran Khan with the Republican Party, newly elected President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

He also said that Trump has a 'soft corner' for Imran Kahn. Trump also expressed deep concern about Imran's imprisonment.

However, the ruling Muslim League (Nawaz-PML) has rejected such claims by PTI. The matter has been dismissed by Pakistan's defense and foreign ministers and the foreign affairs spokesperson.

After Trump's victory, a congratulatory message was posted from Imran Khan's X handle. The post referred to Trump as Imran's 'very good friend'. The post said - Hearty congratulations to Trump on behalf of me and PTI on winning the US presidential election. It has reflected the will of the American people against all odds.

Trump will be good in Pakistan-US relations based on mutual respect for democracy and human rights. We hope he will play a strong role in peace, human rights and democracy worldwide.
