Corona's affect assessment next year: Cabinet Secretary

Staff Reporter: The loss of the country due to Corona will be understood next year. Because there was only 3 months of corona in this financial year. So, the impact will be understood in this new financial year, said Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam.

He made the remarks at a limited press briefing at the secretariat after the cabinet meeting on Monday (November 2). At the time, Anwarul Islam further said that despite the ongoing coronavirus situation, the poverty rate in the country has decreased.

Earlier, a virtual cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Prime Minister attended the virtual meeting from Ganobhaban and other members of the Cabinet from the Secretariat.

The cabinet secretary said the poverty rate in the country was 20.6 per cent and the extreme poverty rate was 12.9 per cent in the 2018-19 financial year. Which has come down to 20.5 percent and 10.5 percent respectively in the 2019-20 financial year.
