Staff Reporter: The 35th span of Padma bridge has been installed. The span was placed on the 8th and 9th pillars at the Mawa end of Munshiganj. As a result, 5,250 meters of the bridge has become visible. The installation of the 35th span was completed on Saturday (October 31) at 2.40 pm, told Padma Bridge Executive Engineer Dewan Mohammad Abdul Quader This month, 4 spans have been installed on the Padma bridge.
Meanwhile, with the installation of the 35th span, 6 out of 41 spans are left to be placed. The remaining 6 spans are said to be fully ready at Mawa Construction Yard. Earlier on Saturday morning, the 35th span weighing 3,150 tonnes was brought from Mawa Construction Yard by a floating crane to pillars 8 and 9 on the Mawa end. It is reported that the 35th span was scheduled to be installed on Friday (October 30) but it did not happen due to navigability problem near the scheduled pillars. Then the dredging was brought back to normal and the date of installation of the span was changed. Today the 35th span was installed.
It is expected that, additinal 4 spans will be installed, depending on the situation. The Padma Bridge Authority has said it plans to install all the remaining spans by next December.
