Staff Reporter: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said, "I hope that in the year of Mujib, the police will be inspired by new aspirations and ideals and become the police of the people of father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of all time."
He made the remarks in a message on the occasion of 'Community Policing' Day on Saturday (October 31).
The Prime Minister said Bangladesh Police is one of the major institutions engaged in the internal security of the country, establishment of rule of law and protection of human rights. Bangladesh Police is constantly fulfilling its responsibilities in the service of the country and the nation with sincerity and courage.
Mutual trust, understanding and respect between the people and the police. The key to community policing, he said, is that modern community policing manages to reduce crime and reduce fear of crime through partnership, crime prevention, law and order and social issues. Various activities are being conducted for the purpose of creation.
The Prime Minister said in the five years since the commencement of community policing activities across the country, 11,17,060 community policing members have worked together in partnership with the police through 60,917 committees to achieve significant success in crime control and solving various social problems.
Sheikh Hasina said in the meantime, Bangladesh Police has gone one step further in curbing crime by forming community policing committees in railway, industrial and highway police in Bangladesh. I strongly believe that community policing will continue to play an important role in curbing violence against women, militancy and terrorism as well as raising public awareness on cyber crime control.
To make Bangladesh Police a modern technology based institution capable of tackling contemporary challenges like cyber crime, militancy and counter-terrorism, money laundering, etc., its government has taken all timely measures including formation of anti-terrorism unit, cyber unit.
He said the Awami League government continues to take and implement various activities to strengthen the human resource management of the police with the aim of building a safe and peaceful country, increase the overall capacity including manpower and budget.
He is happy to know that Community Policing Day 2020 is being celebrated on October 31 like every year. He extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the members of the police on the occasion. He wished overall success to all the arrangements of 'Community Policing Day-2020'.
