519 killed in road accidents in August

Sun News Desk: Some 519 people has been killed and 961 others injured in 458 road accidents across Bangladesh in August this year.

Among the deceased, 64 were women and 69 were children.

The month saw the highest number of accidents and fatalities in Dhaka Division.

Road Safety Foundation (RSF), a non-government organization, made a report on Saturday in this regard.

RSF made the report based on reports published in 9 national dailies, seven online news portals and electronic media.

A total of 172 people were also killed in 183 motorcycle accidents, which accounted for 33.14 percent of the total deaths, the press release added.

Some 109 pedestrians and 94 drivers and helpers died in accidents during this period.

In July, at least 739 people were killed in road accidents.
