World Leaders Understand the Importance of Forests

International Desk: World leaders have gathered in Glasgow, Scotland to save the world. They have pledged at the UN COP-27 climate conference that they will not deforest but reforest by 2030.

An agreement is expected to be signed on Tuesday (November 2). This is the biggest step of the COP 26 conference so far.

Brazil, which destroys large parts of the Amazon rainforest, will also sign the agreement. In addition, a 19.2 billion US Dollars fund, including public and private aid, will be set up under the agreement. News BBC Online.

The two-week climate conference, which began in Glasgow, Scotland, is being considered important in bringing climate change under control. Countries such as Canada, Brazil, Russia and Indonesia have also agreed to sign the agreement. These countries cover about 85% of the world's forests.

As part of the agreement, the governments of 28 countries will pledge to halt international trade in agricultural products such as palm oil, soy and cocoa. More than 30 of the world's largest companies have pledged to stop investing in forest-related businesses.

Another 1.1 billion US Dollars is expected to be raised to protect the world's second-largest rainforest in the Congo Basin.

In the words of Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the organizer of COP 26, the agreement will be a milestone in the effort to restore the forest that is the 'lung' of the world.

In the historic Paris Agreement of 2015, the leaders of the state promised that they will do whatever is necessary to stop the rise in temperature at that stage. But that is why the number of carbon emissions must be reduced collectively. And that's why many see this year's World Climate Conference as a 'last chance' to save the world.

Experts welcome the move. They also warned that the 2014 agreement had failed and could not stop deforestation. They stressed the need to implement the promise. Cutting down trees plays a role in climate change. This is because the tree absorbs the carbon dioxide gas that causes heat.

In addition, the funds raised will be used to rescue damaged lands in developing countries, deal with fires and assist indigenous communities.
