International Desk: A summit of SAARC foreign ministers in New York has been canceled due to disagreements between several countries, including India. NDTV reported on Wednesday (September 22nd) that Pakistan wanted to represent Afghanistan at the SAARC summit.
Islamabad has demanded that the acting foreign minister of the rebel group not be brought to the meeting, and that no representative of Ashraf Ghani's government be present at the SAARC meeting.
In addition, several other countries, including India, disagreed. As a result, the meeting was canceled.
India did not recognize the rebels after they occupied Afghanistan. This new regime in Kabul has not yet received world recognition. India claims that since the Taliban has not yet been recognized by many countries, there is no point in calling their representatives to such a meeting.
Meanwhile, the acting foreign minister of the Taliban government is waiting to attend the UN General Assembly. The Taliban government has appointed an ambassador to the United Nations, expressing interest in representing Afghanistan.
