The First Round of Municipal Elections has been Peaceful: EC Secretary

Staff Reporter: " According to the reports we have received so far in the first round of municipal elections, the election has been fair and peaceful." Said the senior secretary of the election commission Alamgir Hossain.

He made the remarks at a post-election briefing at his office at the Election Commission building in the capital's Agargaon on Monday (December 28) at around 6pm. In the first phase, polling was held in 24 municipalities on Monday (December 28).

Alamgir Hossain said, “According to the reports of the media and our field administration, the vote has been good. Much more voter turnout. Elections have been held peacefully everywhere. Nowhere did less than 80 percent of the vote. Somewhere between 60 and 70 to 80 percent of the votes have been cast. ”

Regarding the violent incidents in Sitakunda and Panchagarh, he said there were clashes and vandalism in Panchagarh as the returning officer's car was driven by the police to evacuate people from the road. We will take action if we get a full report in this regard.

'When the miscreants tried to snatch the EVM in Sitakunda, they could not succeed. The monitor of the EVM fell and broke. That was later replaced by voting. There were no problems with the vote. It has been directed to file a case against those involved in the incident.
