Abode Provided to Additional 53,000 Families

An additional 53,340 families are being provided a place of residence, completely free of cost. The inauguration of this project is to be done by The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, by video conferencing, this coming Sunday.

This information has been relayed by the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, Ahmad Kaikaus, in a press conference, held this Thursday morning.

Additionally, Kaikaus has informed that the housing provided is a part of the second stage of the ongoing Ashrayan-2 Project.

He has stated that, in addition to this, that there are endeavors to provide land and housing to 100,000 more homeless civilians. Those are to be fulfilled by this December.

According to Kaikus, as a result of this project, in addition to finding rehabilitation, both spouses are gaining proprietary rights of their land as well. This ensures a better quality of life, and promotes female empowerment as well.

The first half of this ongoing project has met with the Prime Minister providing houses for 69,904 homeless civilians on 23 January, this year. These projects are a part of the initiative to eradicate homelessness by the end of Mujib Year.

The officers working under this project have informed that each of the houses consist of 2 bedrooms, 1 toilet, a kitchen, and a veranda. The construction for each house costing 1 lakh 71 thousand taka, and the total cost of both the projects adding up to 2 thousand 236 crore and 37 lakh taka.
