BRTC to Add 60 double-decker buses

Staff-Reporter: 60 double-decker buses are coming on the road from Sunday to solve the acute crisis of public transport in the capital. Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has taken this decision to solve the acute crisis of public transport in Dhaka in the last two-three days.

According to BRTC sources on Friday, these buses will run on different routes in the city. However, those routes which have more number of passengers will be priotized.

At present, various institutions including universities are closed. As a result, BRTC buses are also lying idle at the depots. These buses will go on operation in the city.

Chairman of BRTC. Tajul Islam said, " These buses would ply on the city roads from Sunday to reduce sufferings of the passengers observed in the last days." BRTC has already dropped 36 double decker buses on the roads of Dhaka. 24 more buses will be unloaded on Sunday. The government, however, has increased the fare of buses and some other public vehicles by 60 percent."

The government has issued 18 point directives to prevent the second wave of Coronavirus pandemic saying all the public transports, including buses, have to ply on the roads across the country leaving half the seats vacant.

Meanwhile, many offices have not taken any decision till now about attendance of employees. The commuters have been facing acute sufferings on the roads.They have blocked roads in different parts of the city in face of untold sufferings on the roads for public vehicles.
