India has permanently banned 59 Chinese apps, including TickTock

International Desk: The government of India has permanently banned 59 Chinese apps that were temporarily banned in India due to the border dispute between the two countries. The list of banned apps includes TickTock, WeChat, Hello, UC Browser, UC News, Cam Scanner.

Earlier, these 59 Chinese apps were temporarily banned in the national interest. The Indian government temporarily banned 59 Chinese apps in India about seven months ago over India's Ladakh border dispute with China. However, this time the country has issued a new notice to ban those apps permanently.

Last week, India's Union Ministry of Electricity and Information Technology informed the authorities of the apps that their answers and explanations were inadequate. As a result, the temporary ban will be enforced permanently. The ban is issued under Section 69A of the IT Act acusing the apps of engaging in activities which are prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India.

The Economic Times recently quoted an Indian government official as saying that the decision was taken to ban the 59 Chinese apps in India.

Earlier, on September 2 last year, the Indian government banned 118 more apps. An additional 43 Chinese mobile apps were banned in India in November. Following the government's move, Alibaba-owned UC Browser closed its India office.
