Staff Correspondent: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said, "Dhaka city's electricity will be underground in the next four years. Work is underway to underground it in Dhanmondi area. The transparency and accountability of this sector will be further strengthened by integrating modern technology including smart grids, smart meters in power and energy management."

He made this statement during the inaugural ceremony of the installation of a five-kilowatt vertical wind turbine at the BUP campus organized by the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) at noon on Monday (November 23).

Nasrul Hamid said, “The government is taking various incentives for the expansion of renewable energy. Wind mapping has been done in nine places of the country from 2014 to 2018 for wind power generation.

Considering the wind speed from 5.75 m / s to 6.25 m / s, 20,000 MW of electricity can be obtained from wind. Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has undertaken a 45 MW power generation project from waste.

He added, "At present, 650.32 MW of electricity is being generated from renewable energy, of which 417.39 MW is for solar, 2.9 MW for wind and 230 MW for hydropower." At the time, he expressed optimism, "By 2050, Bangladesh will show remarkable success in renewable energy."

The State Minister for Power said, “Bangladesh's economy is growing steadily under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Employment opportunities for engineers and management in the power and energy sectors are growing and will continue to grow. The Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council provides project-based funding for research. Co-operation of the Energy and Power Research Council may be sought for the installation of five kilowatt vertical wind turbines on the BUP campus or for the implementation of such innovative projects.
