A Dhaka court on Monday granted conditional bail to retired Major General Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury, five days after he was arrested in a case filed over an alleged attack, vandalism and looting at content creator Salman Muqtadir’s ‘Brownfish’ studio in the capital’s ECB Chattar area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junayed passed the order after a hearing on the bail petition.
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested the retired army officer from Segunbagicha on September 30. With his arrest, the total number of people detained in the case rose to seven.
The case was filed over an alleged armed attack on September 26 at the New Gini Properties housing project in South Manikdi, near ECB Chattar.
According to the complaint, a group of armed men opened fire and entered Salman Muqtadir’s studio carrying sharp weapons and sticks. They allegedly vandalised the premises and looted valuables.
The complaint said cash, laptops, computers, cameras and other professional media equipment were taken, while several vehicles were also damaged. Site engineer Md Parvez and several others reportedly sustained injuries during the attack.
The complainant estimated property damage at around Tk 1.42 crore and the value of the stolen goods at more than Tk 1.50 crore.
Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, an official of New Gini Properties, filed the case with Cantonment police station, naming 13 people and 150 to 200 unidentified individuals as accused.
Sub-inspector Subrata Debnath of Cantonment police station is investigating the case.
Earlier, the court placed three other suspects—Mamun, Aslam and Munna—on three-day remand for questioning.
