Road Safety Day today

Sun News Desk: The National Road Safety Day is being observed across the country on Saturday.

On the occasion, various public and private organizations and institutions have undertaken various programs. This year's theme of the day is 'Ain Meney Sorokey Choli, Nirapodey Ghorey Phiri (Let us follow the law on road and return home safely),

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday issued separate messages on the eve of the National Road Safety Day.

Noor Mohammad Majumder, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) chairman, said that a program has been taken to make the public awareness of the National Road Safety Day

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the National Road Safety Day, the Nischao (Want Safe Roads) organization led by actor Ilyas Kanchan has undertaken various programmes. Their program includes a rally from Doyle Chatwar of Dhaka University to the Osmani Memorial Auditorium and later a discussion meeting in the auditorium.

In 2018, Durbar movement was held in the country to demand road safety. In view of that, the existing law was amended and made into 'Road Transport Act-2018'. After that, the government declared October 22 as 'The National Road Safety Day' to create awareness about road safety.
