17 killed on road every day

Sun News Desk: On an average, 17 people have died in road accidents across the country during last one year. An average of 14 people have been killed on the roads in the last 10 years.

According to an annual statistics of road accidents, there were 5 thousand 371 road accidents in the country in the last one year. some 7 thousand 468 people were injured, 12 thousand 500 people were physically disabled and 6 thousand 284 people died.

The 'Road Safety Dialogue' organized by Bangladesh Initiative, Servants and Drivers Training Center at Segunbagicha in the capital informed on Friday.

Kazi Abul Al Atahia said we can confront any disaster if we have will power. The proof of which is dealing with the corona epidemic. But we are not working to prevent road accidents. We should give our view on this. The drivers should be trained for safe driving and they should be provided with a healthy life. In this case, women should be included as trainers. Because women are half of the society. It requires public-private and private sponsorship.

Professor Dr. Shamchul Haque, Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET), said, accidents are made by our hands. So those cannot be called accidents. It crashes. Accidents will increase if drivers are not trained and skilled. Drivers should be made efficient. Drivers need to be made not only efficient but also safe. As if they can handle any situation. It is very important to create safe drivers in the country.

He also said that the driver should be well trained first. After that he has to give the driver's license. BRTA needs to be more conscious about vehicle fitness process and licensing of drivers.
