Four killed in Gazipur road crash

Staff reporter : Four people have been killed in a road crash on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur on Wednesday night.

The deceased were identified as Dulal Mia, 27, Md Mamun, 28, son of Nazrul Islam of Bason thana, and Saleha Akter, 23, wife of Mosharraf Hossain of the Chandana area.

Police and hospital sources said a truck collided with a passenger auto-rickshaw from behind on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the Chandana Chowrasta area. The impact of the truck caused the auto-rickshaw to crash into the back of another covered van in front. It was then crushed between the two vehicles. As a result, Dulal Mia died at the scene. Three others were seriously injured and later admitted to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital. While receiving treatment at the hospital, the other three also passed away.

Dr. Sheikh Fahad, the resident medical officer of the hospital, said one person was brought to the hospital around 11pm and two others arrived around midnight. The group consisted of three men and one woman, all of whom were declared dead on arrival. The bodies have been sent to the morgue for autopsy.

Rahedul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gazipur Metropolitan's Basan police station said that legal action is underway, and the bodies will be handed over to the families after the post-mortem examination.
