Incidentally, on February 8, Pakistan's national and provincial assembly elections were held. Imran Khan-led PTI-backed independent candidates are leading in these elections by winning 92 seats in the National Assembly. Apart from this, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's political party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won 79 seats and Bilawal Zardari Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) won 53 seats. A massive political deadlock has been created in the country as no party has secured the required majority to form the government.
Amidst this, the role of independent candidates for government formation in the country has become important. However, the PML-N and the PPP have launched vigorous efforts to rope in winning independent candidates to strengthen their parliamentary position.
