Staff Reporter: In response to rising COVID-19 infection numbers,The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has decided to close the National Zoo in Mirpur and Rangpur Zoo.
Iftekhar Hossain, the ministry's public relations officer, confirmed the matter on Friday (April 2nd) morning.
He said the Bangladesh National Zoo in Mirpur, Dhaka and Rangpur Zoo will remain closed for visitors from today until further notice to prevent corona infection.
Last Monday (March 29), the government issued a notification with 18-point directives restricting all types of public gatherings in the current situation of coronavirus infection, banning all kinds of public gatherings in high-infection areas. This instruction has to be followed for the next two weeks.
Earlier, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock announced the closure of the National Zoo on March 20 last year due to an outbreak of coronavirus. After seven months of closure, the zoo was allowed to open conditionally on the first day of November.
