Hizb-ut-Tahrir leader arrested

Sun News Desk : Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested a top leader of banned militant organisation Hizb-ut-Tahrir from the capital.

Arrestee Abdul Baten, 60, was a fugitive accused in four cases.

Rab-2 Assistant Director (Media) ASP Shihab Karim confirmed to the matter today.

Three cases were filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act and one under the Special Powers Act. Two of the cases were filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, and one each with Hazaribagh Police Station and Manikganj district's Daulatpur Police Station.

The Rab official said Baten is an active member of dawati and finance department of Hizb-ut-Tahrir. He was engaged in promoting militant books in different parts of the country including Dhaka, and encouraging the youth to join militancy.

He was in regular contact with the ameer of the militant group's Bangladesh branch and used to distribute anti-state and anti-government leaflets.
